# GPT-5.6 retrieves product pages over listicles

> David Konitzny's analysis (Aug 2026) — under GPT-5.6, listicles fell from 15.47% to 8.19% of retrieved pages while product pages lead at 16.39%, with daily product-page retrievals up 119%.

GPT-5.6 shifted ChatGPT retrieval toward first-party product content on transactional prompts. David Konitzny's analysis of the August 2026 rollout ([full article](https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/chatgpts-new-default-model-gpt-56-more-retrieval-content-konitzny-8htce/)):

* **Listicles fell from 15.47% to 8.19%** of retrieved pages — down 9.8% in absolute daily retrievals too.
* **Product pages lead at 16.39%** of retrieved sources, up **119% in daily retrievals**; in almost every case the retrieved domain is the brand or manufacturer itself.
* How-to guides, comparison pages, and homepages lost *share* but gained 20–50% in absolute daily retrievals — the pie grew (see [GPT-5.6 retrieval changes](/research/gpt-56-retrieval-changes)).

The driver is the `site:` operator: fan-outs like `site:dell.com XPS 13 laptop specifications Core Ultra 2026` directly target product, feature, and pricing pages on brand domains instead of aggregators.

What brands should do (per the analysis, Aug 2026): treat product, feature, pricing, and specification pages as first-class AI-visibility assets — clear, current, commercially complete — and make sure they are technically accessible to retrieval systems, since a blocked or JS-gated page makes even a targeted fan-out lead nowhere.
