# Citation rate by prompt intent — informational and commercial win

> Peec's 1M-citation study (Feb 2026) — 10–11% of URLs on informational and commercial prompts reach the top citation bucket and carry 37% of citations; transactional prompts spread citations thinly.

Prompt intent changes how concentrated AI citations are. Peec's Feb 2026 analysis of over 1 million citations ([full study](https://peec.ai/blog/citation-rate-benckmarks-from-over-1-million-citations)) compared four intents: informational, navigational/local, commercial, and transactional.

* **Informational and commercial prompts reward repeat winners.** Around 10–11% of URLs land in the top citation-rate bucket (2.0+), and those URLs make up 37% of all citations. When users learn or compare options, LLMs cite the same pages repeatedly.
* **Navigational/local and transactional prompts do not concentrate.** For transactional queries users explore multiple product pages, and for navigational/local queries multiple provider pages, so no small set of URLs dominates.

Practical read: aim for the high-citation bucket on informational and commercial prompts, where a single strong page can compound; on transactional prompts, breadth of coverage matters more than one winning URL. Engine-level targets are in [Citation rate benchmarks by engine](/research/citation-rate-benchmarks-by-engine); which formats reach the top bucket is in [Content types cited most by engine](/research/content-types-cited-most-by-engine).
