# How often Google AI Overviews appears — 87% of searches

> Peec's 500,000-prompt study (Apr 2026) — AI Overviews appeared in 86.7% of Google searches, up from 56.9% in Apr 2025, and reaches 2.5 billion monthly users, the largest AI search surface.

Google AI Overviews appears in roughly 87% of Google searches, based on Peec's analysis of 500,000 prompts from April 13–20, 2026 ([full study](https://peec.ai/blog/ai-overviews-is-the-most-undertracked-ai-search-500-000-prompts-show-why)). Coverage grew from **56.9%** of searches in April 2025 to **86.7%** in April 2026 — a 50% increase in twelve months.

Scale context from the same study: Google confirmed at I/O 2026 that AI Overviews reaches **2.5 billion monthly users** — larger than ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity combined — with AI Mode at 1 billion and Gemini at 0.9 billion, all on the same Google AI stack.

Methodology note: the dataset skews toward business-oriented prompts with buying intent (category research, comparisons, decision-stage evaluations) and excludes navigational queries like "HubSpot" or "Tesla."
